Big Sky, Big Water, Big Love - Wedding Photos on the Lake Erie Shore

Year-round, from sunrise to sunset, our magnificent Great Lake Erie provides a marvelous background for wedding and engagement photos. Even when it’s cold and icy in winter, it’s still so very beautiful. The huge expanse of the lake, the ever-changing colors of sky and water, the abundance of birds and wildlife, the sandy and the rocky beaches combine to create a feeling of eternity, which is the way you want your love to be!

Photos taken at the lake always have a feeling of freedom, joy and delight about them. So naturally, couples smile a lot. The formality of wedding attire juxtaposed with wild nature reveals a side of the couple in love that is unlike the other photos. Of course, in a wedding, you want lots of photos of your beloved family and friends, the ceremony and the true importance of it all, but adding beach photos to the photography plan always works out surprisingly well.

Joy Explodes in a Wedding When You Take Out the Stress!

At most weddings, especially big ones, the element of Stress overrides the element of Joy. It’s sad because the element of Joy is what a wedding is supposed to be about! So what happens when the wedding is small, outdoors. and held on a gorgeous autumn day? The Joy explodes! This wedding, held October 10, was originally planned for 300 people, but Covid times required a change in mindset, so they decided to have a small wedding immersed in nature now rather than wait. They were rewarded with spectacular weather on their chosen day and boundless happiness. It’s remarkable how beautiful authentic smiles of joy can be on human faces. This couple is obviously madly in love with each other and open to having fun on a day when many couples are stressed out from creating a large and expensive production. The family who did attend showed their concern for others with their masks.

Typically, photoshoots of weddings are more work for photographers than joy, but at this wedding, there was so much light, love, and happiness that even we had a fabulous time!

Fall is Full of Creative Opportunities for Weddings

Fall is Full of Creative Opportunities for Weddings

Whoever decided that June is the perfect month for weddings must not have been a Lover of Autumn. Nature is so wonderfully generous with color, texture, depth, and just plain beauty in the fall. It’s the traditional time of harvest, the time when the light changes throughout the day, when leaves become most breathtaking. Everyone in the wedding photos will have the advantage of natural fall lighting, that golden glow that makes people look healthy. A fall or even an early winter wedding outdoors can be more beautiful and less expensive by inviting nature into the planning. In the fall, you can let the colors of your wedding décor or theme come from nature, and stay neutral with wedding attire.

If you want to be married this fall, take a drive through the country (Amish country is especially lovely this time of year in Ohio) and be inspired by nature. You don’t have to buy artificial flowers, plants, grasses or anything fake at all for your wedding if you go to nature. Plus everything you choose will go back to the earth when it’s been used. Even amid the pandemic and all of the discouraging news, nature will still provide the perfect wedding if you let her. Being in love makes all the colors of the world brighter so use this season to allow your imagination to flourish.

2020 Wedding Hot Trend - Wedding Wall Art!

2020 Wedding Hot Trend - Wedding Wall Art!

Wall décor is one of the hot trends of 2020 in the wedding world. It simply requires choosing a few photos to place together artfully on your wall. It’s often a good idea to choose groups in odd numbers, three, five or seven, just like you do when creating settings of plants. The theme of the wall décor can be many different things; they just have to show some coherence so they convey harmony to the viewer. As you look through all of your photos, see if a theme emerges of a few photos that might work together.  It can be just the groom, or just the bride, or the wedding dress, or family members laughing, children, or looks of love. When you’ve chosen the group of photos that you want to use for your wall art, decide how to have them printed in sizes that will work together so that you end up with a big rectangle or square.

In the past, couples would have one big photo - their “official” wedding photo - and blow it up to a big size. The wedding wall art of today is more creative. It works very well when you choose photos of faces that express a deep emotion or show how the person is deep in thought about this momentous occasion.

If you have ideas about creating a work of wedding wall art before the wedding, talk to your photographer about the theme. He or she can then watch for opportunities to shoot photos of that theme.

Finding Happiness When Covid-19

Spoils Your Plans and Visions

If your engagement, wedding, and travel plans, or simply your plans to start a new life have been dimmed by the pandemic, be sure to feel the disappointment – for a short while! The more important allowing, however, is for your natural happiness to bubble up from within you where it hides. It takes more energy to allow happiness than it does to wallow in disappointment. Allowing happiness happens when you accept what you can’t do about your plans and start looking at what’s possible. Think outside your pre-pandemic brain for new ways to approach manifesting your dream engagement, wedding, or honeymoon!

First of all, try to be open to the idea that in the end, different may turn out to be better. Since the pandemic, thousands of couples around the country have still gotten married. The remarkable thing is that many found they had more ingenuity and creativity in planning their events than they thought they had. So, if you’re in the midst of trying to plan your future and you run into pandemic-related roadblocks, try taking some time to release the disappointment and hassle, and then allow your natural happiness to return. Happiness will fuel your creative juices and you will be surprised at how you will begin to see possibilities where the obstacles stood.

The first recorded evidence of a marriage ceremony uniting one man and one woman dates to 2350 BC! That’s well over four thousand years ago.  You don’t have to study world history to know that a lot of bad things like plagues and pandemics have come and gone, yet wedding ceremonies have gotten more popular than ever. As the song says, don’t worry, be happy…and start planning!

Flowers & Plants - how to have a beautiful wedding on a tight budget

Flowers & Plants - How to Have a Beautiful Wedding on a Tight Budget
Let Nature Help You!

The costs mount up fast when you’re planning a wedding.  These days most people are scaling back costs, but not dreams! Dreams can be adapted to a tighter budget by letting the beauty and bounty of Mother Nature help you curate a wedding and reception venue with color and creativity. Making flowers and plants your primary elements doesn’t mean your florist bill has to be huge.  It will take a little work and planning, and perhaps yard sale hunting for pots, vases. and containers, but the possibilities are unlimited if you’re willing to do the work.

If your wedding and reception are in the distant future, you can begin now by planting seeds or starter plants inside your home so that by the time the wedding arrives you’ll have some of the flowers or plants you want.  Don’t have a green thumb, time, or inclination to do that?  Then get to know the nature around you, in neighbors’ yards, parks, or any natural place. Look deeper to see what you love. Let people know your plans. You would be surprised at how gardeners you barely know would love to contribute plants and flowers to your wedding effort. It doesn’t have to be color coordinated and matched. In these pandemic times, we all have to stretch our imaginations and think outside the wedding magazines.  The great thing about learning about flowers and plants as you create the elements of your wedding is that you’ll be able to brighten the life and home you’re creating with your new spouse.

Enjoy this nature photography we’ve accumulated over the years. Daniel’s photography of nature in natural light is glorious.
