One inexpensive way to create a super fun wedding experience for your guests is to create a “photo booth”. This year, wedding décor is moving away from overly busy, cluttered looks to refined elegance. The trick for brides-on-a-budget is to create it with limited funds. Below are ways to create the look of elegance without the expense. Remember “elegance” can mean cultured, but it also means “purified” as in taking out the unnecessary elements.
This trend is a great thing for wedding photography as well. With a simpler, elegant style, the photos capture the emotions of the people and the feeling of the experience on a beautiful background, but not so cluttered that the viewer gets overwhelmed. Remember, the wedding event is one day, but the photos last forever. When you look at them on your anniversaries, you want to see the people, the smiles, and the happiness. The table design and decorations lose significance over the years. The faces grow in significance.
- You don’t have to choose a “theme”. The concept of themes was developed by the wedding industry to sell more stuff.
- Choose to have minimum décor with softness and light as your color palette. Blush colors and pastels are easier to work with than strong colors. There is also a trend of mixing black accents with soft colors, but it has to be done very carefully. Less is more!
- Don’t get stuck in concepts like traditional, modern, contemporary, etc. You can blend them. Just don’t overdo it.
- Do one thing that is universally thought of as elegant such as monogrammed napkins. Buy enough to last for years in your home. However, one thing is enough!
- Candles always add romance, but both candles and holders can be mixed in height and color. This is another place where you have to be careful. It’s a fine line between romantic looking and cluttered.
- Clear glass is inexpensive and can be found everywhere from flea markets to Wal-mart. It adds light and depth and the reflections from candles can be rich.

Hold Your Dream Wedding Outdoors in Cleveland's Cultural Gardens
Begun in the late 1890's, the Cleveland Cultural Gardens are unique in the world. Over 30 gardens are completed with eight more in development, representing many of the city's 120 distinct ethnic groups. Several of the gardens are beautiful locations for weddings or special event photos. You do need to get a permit from the city to hold a wedding in one of the gardens so do that right away. In addition to providing unique backgrounds for weddings, the rich history and tradition of the gardens adds another dimension to the wedding. The gardens with fountains, like the Italian Garden, are particularly good for weddings, but also in high demand. If northeast Ohio is to be your home after you're wed, beginning your future at such a meaningful location is a great idea.
Take a drive or a walk through the gardens when you are considering your wedding plans. They can be very lovely in spring, summer and autumn because of all the foliage and flowers. They are part of Rockefeller Park, right off of the East Shoreway. The upper half of the Gardens is on East Boulevard, starting at Superior Avenue and going north past St. Clair Avenue. The lower half is on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from the Shoreway on the north going south toward Superior Avenue.
