How to Adapt Your Dream to a New Beginning Together
When people marry and become one couple, their dreams marry as well. Of course, each person retains his or her personal and professional dreams or goals, but the wedding created a new entity – the shared dream of a happy and fulfilling life together. The wedding is the first step onto a bridge that leads to a shared life and it’s important for the couple to realize that. Sometimes people expect that being able to place the marriage first will automatically happen upon completion of the successful wedding. Sometimes it does! Usually, however, that’s when the work on communication, open-mindedness, finding balance, and compromise begins.
It will be helpful in getting settled into your marriage to look at your wedding photos, remembering the day when you rose to the occasion of putting your relationship above your individual self. Look at the photos of the parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, who walked across that same bridge in their day, and not only survived but thrived. Other than the birth of a child, a wedding day is when human hopes are at their height. Couples step forward in faith and hope that they are creating a wonderful new life together. Knowing that their elders did that too helps.
