The One Rule for Having a Successful Wedding
In her book "The Art of Gathering," author Priya Parker writes that "90% of a gathering's success is set in motion before the actual event."
Whether the gathering is a dinner party or a large wedding, advance planning of every detail is important. That may seem overwhelming but it's really good news! If you plan well, and keep meticulous records of everything you're doing and of the agreements you've made, your potential success is much greater. Of course, things happen because weddings are composed of people, and people don't always do what we want. But having a variable of 10% is reasonable. The book gives numerous examples of how to set gatherings up to succeed before anyone has even left for the event. A lot of it is good, old-fashioned thinking about how others will feel being invited to and experiencing your wedding. You may not believe you have time to think about how each guest will feel, but it's important, so take the time.
Even with a wedding planner, weddings are challenging because most people plan only one (or hopefully just a few) in their lifetimes. Use a notebook and paper or a computer but do plan every aspect from announcement to the last guest leaving, and your wedding is very likely to fulfill your dreams.
